Description: Diamond is a mineral composed of pure carbon and is considered the hardest natural substance in the world, extracted from mines and cut by skilled and expert individuals. This valuable mineral, rooted in the element of carbon, has high hardness, which has led to its use in industry and goldsmithing. The hardness of this substance is so great that it can only be scratched by a diamond like itself. Other characteristics of diamond include its unique brilliance and ability to reflect light in rainbow colors. The reflection of light causes the diamond to shine, and this feature adds to its value as a precious stone. The fame of diamond as a mineral is due to its variety, durability, beauty, and excellent quality, and it is among the most popular precious stones in the world.

In French, "Brilliant" refers to a type of cut performed on a diamond stone. This type of cut is known as the Swiss cut, which was used in the past for various types of stones. In the brilliant cut today, efforts are made to display the visual aspects of the diamond more than ever, and the angles and type of cut are adjusted so that the light entering the stone hits more facets before reaching our eyes. To achieve this goal, scientists at major institutes in America and Belgium are constantly striving to improve the type of diamond cut and present new standards every year. In principle, all diamond cuts, whether traditional or with the help of advanced devices, must be carried out observing these standards. The brilliant cut consists of three parts which increase the brilliance and beauty of this small stone. These three parts include: the Crown, the Girdle, and the Pavilion, where the girdle is actually the separating surface between the upper part (crown) and the lower part (pavilion). Each of the upper and lower sections consists of different triangular, rhombus, or kite-shaped facets, which together create ۵۸ facets. These facets are created on the diamond by precise laser cutting and are called "Facets" in gemology terminology. At the final and sharp point of the brilliant, a facet is also created called the "Culet" to protect the end of the brilliant cut diamond against impact and breakage. In some brilliant cuts, this facet is removed and this part is made completely sharp; this type of cut is called "Full Cut"; in this case, a brilliant with ۵۷ facets is created.

The Marquise cut is one of the rare types of diamond cuts and is considered the most expensive type of diamond. In terms of appearance, the Marquise cut is likened to the shape of an eye or a boat. In the Marquise cut, ۵۹ geometric surfaces are implemented on the diamond to showcase the brilliance of this gem to its ultimate extent.
