In French, "Brilliant" refers to a type of cut performed on a diamond stone. This type of cut is known as the Swiss cut, which was used in the past for various types of stones. In the brilliant cut today, efforts are made to display the visual aspects of the diamond more than ever, and the angles and type of cut are adjusted so that the light entering the stone hits more facets before reaching our eyes. To achieve this goal, scientists at major institutes in America and Belgium are constantly striving to improve the type of diamond cut and present new standards every year. The brilliant cut consists of three parts which increase the brilliance and beauty of this small stone. These three parts include: the Crown, the Girdle, and the Pavilion, where the girdle is actually the separating surface between the upper part (crown) and the lower part (pavilion).
